    SPc232 sp with pale copy

Print is fine but copy is pale, pale, pale with no improvement after cleaning the optics, now I saw few posts here related with the white strip in the optics and doing ACC.
My question is has anyone tryed to place white piece of paper instead of white strip and what can be expected?
Kinda dumb question but it's my only on-field-solution so far...or it's all for nothing and I didn't see some mirror in that stupid scanner.
Seriously those optics look designed too confident...those appear to be made so they can newer be opened and if you do open it you'll probably brake everything you touch.
Gears, springs, clutches, sliders, connectors and electronics...who on earth can tell what's wrong with it?

The problem we used to get with the SPC 222 was caused by someone turning on the quick start up which kept the scanner lamp on all the time so it cooked the white balance strip. The glue on the strip softened and the strip buckled and lifted off the glass and the end result was pale stripes down the page.
My quick fix was to paint my own white strip under the glass with a white spray can. And your right, the scan unit is a crap piece of design that was never meant to be serviced.
However I've never seen the problem on the later models, 232 / 242 etc. Is your problem pale stripes or evenly pale across the page?

The tape holding the white reference plate in has parted unfortunately. You need to replace the top of the scanner assembly that contains the ADF slit and exposure glasses. Part number is M099 1757.
It's 106 miles to Chicago. We've got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark and we're wearing sunglasses.

      Hit it.

Thanks for replies guys,I saw the bulletin regarding the glue melting but my problem was equaly pale copy that got solved with turning off the toner save mode...
Honestly I had no idea those things even have toner save, imagine my look when I realised how easy it is,and I spent 40min cleaning optics and sweating like a pig afraid that I'll brake something.
Biggest joke was the user who turned on toner save mode and then called us saying "it's so pale"...

I'm sure you could claim provocation and justifiable homicide in your defense.
