MP3010 toner guide plate latch retrofit?

anyone have a "creative retrofit" for repairing the little green latch on the toner guide plate, short of taking apart half of the back of the machine to get to the 2 rear screws?
I just salvaged one from one of my junkers but would rather not repeat that process in the customers office if anyone has an alternative "fix"

      Agreed.
We're talking about an assembly that dates back to the AF2022 series (2003 or so) and I've only personally had to replace 1 of them myself.
We're 13 years on, so I wouldn't worry about having an onslaught of these calls all of a sudden. It's just a very rare occurrence

I know, I've been working on these since the 1027 series and this is the first one I've seen broken too.

I've seen plenty bent to the point they would not hold the tray in any longer, but not broken off.

If you could get a long strip of metal you could put the latch on one end and try to epoxy the other end to the machine. But I'm not sure how well that would work.

Yes I have the whole assembly I pulled from an old machine.
i was thinking of popping off the metal strip with the latch and try to epoxy it on to the broken strip that is left.
this is a chargeable customer and it being an older unit I am trying not to open a can of worms taking half the machine apart to replace that.

Look at the assembly you have to see if how the latched is attached. If it i s spot welded, you are going to have trouble doing anything but replacing the entire unit.

It actually has a hole punched through the metal frame into the hole on the metal strip with latch, almost like a rivet with no rivet (I was able to pop it off with a flat blade screwdriver)

Sounds like they did an extrusion punch, then used the extrusion as a rivet. You might try working with the one from the parts machine and pop riveting the latch back on.
