    MP 4001

    customer called about noise that I only heard once, sounded like the transfer belt seizing up which I've heard on other earlier Ricoh models or the limit pulley;
    any heard anything like this from this model, first I've had.
    Thanks!!!

      i would guess on development unit... the auger to its bearing/bushing
      fix the customer first then fix the machine... its simple and makes life more easy.

        Transfer belt rides toward the rear frame and can cause squealing/ noise. also the x2 white cone shaped Transfer belt tension pulleys can cause noise also.

          Likely the transfer belt from the 4000 to even the new 4002 models they came with crappy transfer units, of course there is a newly designed one but even our newest machines didnt come with the new design. They added a mylar at the rear of the belt frame where the belt rubs on the plastic. This is usually a squeal noise.

              The MP 4000 series, MP 4001 series and MP 4002 series all have this problem as you can see from this Tech Bulletin (it is the same Transfer Unit for all 3 series).

                Check to see that the cleaning web is advancing. If not they build up a bunch of toner which rubs against the hot roll and is noisy as well.

                  That transfer belt TSB was the one i was talking about them changing it to.

                  But speaking of the cleaning web as mention above, if you hear grinding noise I have seen techs install the gear that drives the worm gear on backwards, it will go on both ways but if backwards it doesnt make enough contact with the worm gear and will skip, this will make a rubbing/grinding type noise.

                    Our junior tech did that just this week. He asked me if the bearing might be seized be cause there was a grinding noise and the take up roller did not seem to be turning properly. One glance at the gear and a I told it was on wrong.
