I'd start by cleaning the optics, white reference plate, CIS, then cleaning and reseating the memory DIMM's. With the shift in resolution between copying and printing, it is also possible the laser unit is at fault.
It's 106 miles to Chicago. We've got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark and we're wearing sunglasses.

Is that machine set up for scanning to computers? If so, what do those scans look like?
(I've seen something similar a couple of times on older machines (like the AF1022s) when the SBU expired, but let's hope that isn't the case this time.)

If its only occurring when you copying then its an optics problem.
1) Clean optics
2) Take a solvent cleaner like methalated spirits or alcohol or turpentine and clean the rails that the optics and mirrors slide on. Then re-grease rails and then lightly spray liquid lubricant like Q20, WD40, etc on the rails and bushings.
3) Check to see if optics are still clean after spraying and greasing.
4) Close up, put on and test.
