    mpc 2500 sc293

I have a machine with a sc 293 that wont clear . The laser shutter was removed ,updated firmware, shutter motor turns in IO mode . Im thinking IO board or BICU .

To be safe, replace both the BICU and polygon motor.

If the machine threw the code AFTER you removed the shutter, you need to put the shutter springs and levers back on. You can leave the shutter plate off, levers stay on.

                Re: mpc 2500 sc293

I post this for others to find since google was pointing me to this post.

I got SC293 and I found nothing on the internet regarding how to fix this.

later I discovered the following comment: https://www.copytechnet.com/forums/r...tml#post332671

                [Symptom]
SC290 (shutter does not close) and SC293 (shutter does not open) occur.
                Applicable Models: MPC2500/3000/3500/4500

                [Cause]
When the device is left for long periods of time in a low temperature environment, the write unit (the black molding) cover shrinks, the slide load on the shutter and shutter stabilizing screw (shoulder screw) increases, and SC290 or SC293 occur because of the shutter malfunction.
                • When parts crossover internally, the problem occurs on the device with the lower limit value.
                • With a temperature change of 20 degrees Celsius, the shrinkage is approximately 0.4 mm.

                  [Resolution]

When the following problem occurs, remove one of the following top screws.
                • You can maintain slide-ability even when the mold components have shrunk due to low temperatures by removing the screw.
                • Do not lubricate the shutter's shoulder screw with grease. There is a possibility that an abnormal image might be caused by dirt on the toner shield glass.
Why brought the similarity to my mind, before I thought these a totally different issues with different fixes

So I accessed the shutter liked described here:
                SC 290 on Ricoh MPc35/4500 - YouTube
Its not exactly the same since the connectors are on cables and not fixed to the machine, but very similar.

I also left the shutter inside the machine since it can be locked in place by moving one screw to an placeholder spott locking the shutter in open position.

I did this and restarted the printer and it worked

I'm just wondering what effect this will have on the lifespan of the printer (can be fixed by cleaning the glasses of the laser?) and why it stopped working in the first place since the shutter moves freely if i do it by hand. Maybe the motor is dead?
