Customizing layout of the Smart Operation Panel

When I unpack and start up a new machine with the SOP I sometimes wonder if my version of customizing the start page is the best.
How do you prefer to arrange the icons and widgets to make it as user friendly as possible? Here's how I do it. In my case a lot of the machine goes out to customers who are new to this operation panel but has been using Ricoh machines for quite some time.

    Happy new years!

I usually put them one screen to the right of home and show the customer how to use them. You can also use the Classic Copy screen to enter SP mode.

I also recognize the fact that most of our customers are used to what is now the "classic" interface. Since after receiving negative feedback from sales reps, field techs AND customers getting the first SOP with its new user interface, I have been moving all icons for the modes along with the "quick" modes to the first screen and setting the Home Screen up with the classic versions of all modes along with the user tools, print to portable device, Doc Server, addressbook mgmt and toner-level indicator. All remaining icons are moved over to the third screen. The Home Screen setup was determined by ease of use, customer's need to access for editing settings, etc. No icons are deleted unless specified by customer. This seems to have been a very satisfactory way to organize the screen.

I agree that customers who had Ricoh machines recently should see a panel as similar as possible to what they are accustomed to.

New customers, who are coming from different brands, should be set up with the panel being closer to the SOP defaults.

Like it or not, the SOPs are slowly becoming standard, and all new models will have them.

We may have to get used to it, but we don't have to do it all at once.

FWIW, customers coming from older Ricoh models that were quite different, seem to take kindly to the SOP screens at defaults, or with limited changes. I have one customer who replaced their 10 year old machines with 15 MP C4504s with SOP, and they love 'em.
