I just performed a 60k maintenance on a ricoh mp2000l aND just received a call from the customer, saying the mfp is calling for toner. I believe I performed the calibration according to the service manual and the toner cartridge was a new full toner. I am not too familiar with this box and am unsure of my next step. Any ideas?

Re: Ricoh mp2000l add toner message after developer change
The MFD only has 64k on it, so this is basically the first PM. I went back out there today and checked to see if the toner cartridge was turning, it is, checked to see if the developing unit and its gears are all turning, they are. I noticed no toner in the developing unit; so, I spiked the developing unit for now and its making copies and prints, so I know the toner sensor is working. I will go back and swap out the toner bottle and check setup procedure to see if that resolves the issuesComment

Re: Ricoh mp2000l add toner message after developer change
2 things to check on the toner bottle:- If the customer just replaced the bottle, is the inner cap from the old bottle stuck in the toner chuck?
- Is the toner chuck sticking and not coming out far enough to open enough to grip the inner cap on the new bottle?

Thank you for the replies, I am going back out with a new toner bottle and I will inspect for these issues. Might I add, if you follow the replacement procedure, it almost seems hit or miss in the service manual. Just my two- cents, I think there are more steps on corrective measures if certain things occur after replacement... its almost like they knew something... but released this model anyway.Last edited by copiertec; 01-04-2017, 02:22 PM.Comment

Re: Ricoh mp2000l add toner message after developer change
Some Ricoh don't add toner if you swap the bootle too quickly. No matter of the status of the PM parts: If the machine claims no toner there must be a message showing up like "adding toner" after replacing the bottle (not too quickly). If you see this message but the machine doesn't recover there are several possible issues (toner motor / hopper / toner auger inside PCU....). Also check the old bottle if it has it's cap gotton back from the hopper.Comment

Re: Ricoh mp2000l add toner message after developer change
Well, it turns out that it was the cap from the old toner bottle was stuck in the toner supply unit, I removed it and it seems to be working, now. I thank you for the help. I learned something new, today.Comment

Very common problem. First time it happens at a customer, we show it to them and tell them to check the old bottle when they take it out.Comment

Re: Ricoh mp2000l add toner message after developer change
I have to be honest, that was the first time I performed a maintenance on that particular box and I did everything by the book. So, when I received the call from the customer I started to second guess things. What amazed me was the fact that the toner bottle still fit in the toner supply unit with the old cap stuck in it and it didn't cause binding, lockups or damage of any kind to the toner motor, etc.. Maybe I just got lucky.Comment
