[Misc] Ricoh 2018D prinouts too high on page.

Our Ricoh 2018D suddenly makes copies that are too high on the page, from a few millimeters to about an inch higher than the original. When copying documents with short top margins, the top portion is either printed at the very edge of the paper or missing.

    print 1.jpgprintout 2.jpg
That happens regardless which paper tray is selected.

I initially thought it was a worn out gear. I removed the gearbox and the gear that connects to the feeding mechanism was indeed worn out and i replaced it.

    But the problem persists.

I am thinking it is a paper feeding issue.

Any tips and help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

It's one thing to replace the gear, but are the teeth on the tray sliders broken? Any difference between LEF and SEF?

I would check the registration clutch since it doing it from all trays, if its dumping developer like they do its probably in the clutch. Mongo

Any chance you could share a picture of an entire print? I have an idea, but unless I can see an entire print (even the total copy counter page would work) I can't tell if it is a stupid waste of time or not.
          Sorry.

Checked and cleaned the clutch. Did not solve the problem. One thing i noticed though is the registration rollers are quite tight, very difficult to rotate freely by hand. Our other machine, an MP200 which is practically similar to the 2018 , have quite loose registration rollers, easy to rotate.

What's the registration like when you put a sheet through the bypass ?

What's the registration like when you do enlarge or reduction?

                  Update:

Managed to fix the problem. It was in the registration rollers. Removed the rollers, cleaned and greased the bushings / shaft. Cleaned the gears. Loosened the tension springs a little.

Now works like it used to. Became quieter too.
