    [Misc] Ricoh MP C5000 Scan to email or folder issue

    When scanning to server folder the machine spits out a 50+ page document of nonsense (letters and number) and does not send the file to the folder. When scanning to email we get this:

    This is a multi-part message in MIME format.
    --DC_BOUND_PRE_<1487100294.000074f63b46>
    Content-Type: text/plain; charset=US-ASCII
    Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit

    This E-mail was sent from "RNPF63B46" (Aficio MP C5000).

    Scan Date: 02.14.2017 14:24:54 (-0500)
    Queries to: glenp@zdmetalproducts.com
    --DC_BOUND_PRE_<1487100294.000074f63b46>
    Content-Type: application/pdf; name="20170214142454162.pdf"
    Content-Transfer-Encoding: base64
    Content-Disposition: attachment;
    filename="20170214142454162.pdf"

    followed by a bunch of letters and numbers. We have updated all firmware, checked and double checked settings. Anyone ever have this issue?

    Thanks,
    Jay

    As you are scanning to email, the server may be rejecting the attachment.

    Try turning on divide by size, in Scanner Features, and set it to something like 2MB. The emails will come through in parts, but at least they will come through.

    Either that, or use scan to folder (depending on recieving OS) or FTP (works on all OS).

      Is the customer using Exchange 2013? There's a known issue that will give you a similar scenario. Cumulative Update 1 needs to be installed.

        Sounds to me like Divide and Send is on and the Max Email Size is set very low, possibly still at the default setting of 2048K (2M). I like to set this to 25600K (25M). Also check compression settings.

          Scan to server folder:
          A server like these needs to recognize your Ricoh as a trusted sender.
          So your Ricoh must be defined with his IP address in that server.
          If not, mostly it will refuse the data; this one seems to make a joke of it...
          To define your Ricoh you need to log in...

            Besides adding the "trusted" IP address of the MFP to the server, you might also need to add the MAC ID of the MFP too! The combination of IP address and MAC ID should solidify the connection!

              I have never had to do more than set the domain name properly on the MFP and set the primary DNS for the MFP as the primary local DNS.

                I'm kind of with Ruben. If divide & send is set to 'by size' instead of 'by page', it creates a .DAT file.

                I always run Sp5801 -Printer, -Scanner & absolutely -NCS whenever I have weird printing/scanning issues. That will set everything back to default (DHCP, TIFF, 128kb I/O Host, etc.), so you'll need to check your settings first.

                  Most SMTP servers will reject any attachment that is larger that 25MB. Divide and send works best when sending to a recipient who is using Outlook as a client on an Exchange Server. The Exchange will reassemble the parts and deliver it to the client as a single document. Otherwise, it usually comes through as a mime file. Many times if you are sending to an in house Exchange Server and the recipient is a client on the same server, the server can be configured for no size limit or at least to 400-500 MB.

                    Slimslob: sometimes we forget to put the Max Email Size setting to a higher level on a mfp. The only time when it won't work than is when there is too much data that needs to be transported... And that isn't the case here, it won't scan at all, even with low email sizes...
                    Or am I missing something?

                      There was an issue with an update to Exchange Server a little over a year ago that caused attached PDF files sent with certain compression settings was converted to mime text. The solution was to change compression to JBIG if I remember correctly.
