    Ricoh 3550 scan to email

    Hi Guys

i have a MP3550 that wont scan to email. i know the email server is correct and i can ping it from the machine. there is no authenitcation required ( so thier Network team tell me)

when i try to scan it fails instantly and i have checked the system log on the web browser it gives SMTP error 101

    Any sugestions
i cant find any scan error codes in the service manuals.

Is the email staying internal (e.g. an email to user X from user X) or going outside the network (user X sending to someone outside their email domain)? If the latter, the mail server you're using may not be set up to send outside the network. Check and see if there's a second mail server you can use.
Also, does the server use a different port other than 25?

The emails are internal the email server uses port 25

all our mfd's are tested on our mail server before delivery and it worked.

      thanks

With an immediate failure it sounds like an authentication problem.

Try entering the IP address of the mail server in your dns settings on the machine

You can change the SMTP server to one that you know is good (I.E. the one at the office, possibly another clients) and doesn't use authentication, to test and see if it is on the network end or on your end. I've had I.T. staff tell me they aren't using it and piggy back our email server at the office and it works fine. This tells you there is an issue somewhere in the setup and not in the physical connection.
the savin2535 is displaying well bet the hiter lamp is not shining and the lamp had been tested o.k.please kindly help.

                Scan to email issues

Is the customer using an exchange server?
if they are and they have high security set on it you may have to add the ip address of the copier to the exchange mail server list of approved users.
also try testing to an external smtp account e.g. hotmail account, yahoo account.....

For your reference, this is because SMTP (Simple Mail Transfer Protocol) does not 'usually' require authentication**, as it's the protocol that only sends e-mails out. Something along the lines of POP3 which retrieves e-mails from an Inbox does require authentication. So "In theory" a Copier doing Scan to E-mail shouldn't need an E-mail account set up for it unless the machine was actually recieving e-mails.

Hope this helps shed some light for you.

first send an email and let it fail
                    next go to user tools/interface/printlist
you will find a log page with the bottom entry saying something like this

smtpc failed to get server address error (then an error number)
this line should give you a clue as to the failure
you can google the error number and get a list of smtp errors
