3-22C FIERY CONTROLLER IS NOT CONNECTING WITH MACHINE

Greetings
I am looking at a MPC 3503 lease return that has a e22c fiery.
MY warehouse with such unit is a 200 mile roundtrip drive so I am trying to gather info before
going to inspect said unit.
the description tells me fiery is not connecting with copier.
The last fiery I dealt with was the 6513 color units way back so I
dont know if I am getting into a headache or not.
any input appreciated.

You're looking at a bag full of possibilities over there - something as simple as a bad cable between the machine and the controller or as complicated as a system software malfunction requiring a reinstallation or an HD replacement, with several things in between.

would a customer feel the need to pull controller HD for security reasons or
is that hard drive just for processing the job?
if the hard drive is gone how hard is re installing the controller software?
If I decide not to use controller should printing as a normal mpc3502 without a controller
be any issues? does the controller have a funky "dongle" like the old old 6513?

its a real good possibility that the HD was pulled. Unlike a machine's HD the fiery will hold onto the jobs and can be reprinted. Reinstalling the fiery system is straight forward procedure. Plenty of documentation on the steps needed.The biggest hurdle will be getting the system software if its not with the machine.

in training on that fiery, the biggest rule was to secure the software discs in a safe place. without them, it is impossible to load the system software.

so if i get the software disc and a new hard drive it should go back to its original self?

I would just remove the fiery and use the standard controller. I do it all the time on used purchases.
