Poor Gradient on Pro C7100 with Fiery E43a

I have been struggling with this issue since machine installed. Currently at about 300k total. Whenever a gradient is printed that transitions from dark to light it is fine until just befor it turns white. At this point on the image a distinct line or step is produced. Turning smoothing on in fiery driver helps issue a bit, but now a mottling effect appears. It does this on all colors. Have replaced IPU sub IPU CNTL BCU and IOB. Have recalibrated laser, swapped out the Fiery with a different one. All patches on fiery set to auto update and all appear to be up to date. Firmware on machine at newest levels. Any ideas?

when updating firmware on the c9100 you have to change a bunch of sp settings if you don't you will get quality issues not sure if c7100 is the same its a c9100 bulletin
