Flash the firmware, replace the HDD, eliminate arcing from the developer, xfer units, spray the carpet with anti-static solution.
Can also be caused by and often is: old drum, dying developer.

      1.CLEAN THE CONTROLLER
2.USE THE HDD ABOUT 2/3 CAPACITY OF D.SERVER
3.CLEAN THE MACHINE IF IS DIRTY(PCU-ID-POTENTIAL)

Also caused by bad power - This time of year the A/C gets shut down, and the heaters come on. Some places it's pure electric heat, and the extra load causes problems. Sometimes with Oil heaters the ignitors put a lot of noize back on the line. Every shop needs a power monitor to check stuff like this - Bad grounds and high neutral voltage don't show up under all loading conditions, and line noize can't be read with a standard tech meter at all. We use a powertronics PQR-52 - it's about $600.00, but it has saved us thousands

In service manual : SC 990 Symptom
              Software performance error
The software attempted to perform an unexpected operation
              Possible cause
              Software defective
              Internal parameter incorrect
              Insufficient working memory
when this SC occurs, the file name, address, and data will be stored in NVRAM . This information can be checked by using SP7 - 403. Note above data and the situation in which this SC occurs. Then report the data and conditions to your technical control center.
In life : Ask for answer in copytech still can not solve the problem

SC 990 on Ricoh Aficio 990

                I just had that problem.
I switch off and on the machine and everything was ok.
About 15-20 mins after that electric insurer on electric network turn off electric power in that electric socket.

So, as I read that electric power can be problem in one previous post, I think that in my case that was the problem.

In most of the cases, the problem is the drum. If you look closely, you can see frayed edges.

                      This thread is from 2008!

What's really funny is that the original poster (lary leon14) posted the solution 6 years later!!

Good thing he didn't need to update the firmware as both of these are the older PCMCIA card machines.
