    Ricoh MP2851 cassettes no lift

Got a Ricoh MP 2851 with 2 cassettes. Neither cassette will lift paper and display shows paper empty. Sometimes you get a reseat cassette message. No lifter movement in either cassette. Suspect a board issue (IOB or BICU) as both cassettes failed at the same time after customer moved machine and plugged it into an overloaded power strip with about 5 other things plugged into the strip. Bypass works fine. The rest of the machine functions normally.

double check tray lift motors ( white ) ... then check the board

this is assuming there is no paper in the tray switches ( back of tray ) and all sensors have been checked

In output check you can tell it manual to lift paper tray

      5804 Output Check
11 1st Paper Tray Up Upper paper lift motor (Up)
12 1st Paper Tray Down Upper paper lift motor (Down)
13 2nd Paper Tray Up Lower paper lift motor (Up)
14 2nd Paper Tray Down Lower paper lift motor (Down)

I just double check you can pull cassettes out and turn motors on and off in output check.

Check the paper size switch. One section of it is used to detect whether the cassette is pushed all the way in.

I had this on a c5502 which locked the machine up. I ended up having to replace the #1 feed unit (not detecting up position on the lift plate).

on these mp2851 mp3351 if you remove the back panel you will see there is a small switch that gets activated when you slide the cassette in. they are bad for coming loose and not reading correctly. this will cause cassette not to lift. ricoh has actually come out with a sticky plastic piece that you attach to the bracket to keep switch feet from being able to collapse and slip out of bracket. only tray 1 and 2 have this switch so it would explain your issue.

Usually when I have had that switch come loose, the flag gets broken off or the bracket it is mounted on get bent, it affects auto size detect of the paper width, i.e. LT LEF is detected as HLT SEF, paper lift pressure. Should someone manually set the paper size in User Tools, the lift pressure will still be for the narrower paper and frequent feed failures will occur.
