Something is not straight or "square" causing the belt to do that. There is more tension on the exposed side of the frame than on the other side. Check bushing wear or anything else that can cause that uneven condition. That is the only reason I know of that will make a belt run to one side. Used to have that on the mpc3000 fusing belt when the fusing bush on the one side melted causing uneven tension.

You could try cleaning the two large tension rollers the belt runs on and clean the smaller charge roller as well. If their is material buildup it may cause the belt to move. Next step would be to replace the subframe the belt is run on. Having said that you're not really tossing away much good material if you replace the whole transfer unit. That's an old machine and they are crappy to deal with when new.

Ricoh has a bulletin that that doesn't fix it, it just makes it not squeak, Squeal or whatever. They put a Mylar on the sides and when the belt moves over (IT Will)
It wont cause a service call. I think when you order the assembly you get the new style but not sure.
I have had some luck as they were saying clean everything real good and have flipped them if I didn't have a belt but these are notorious for that.

My experience has been one of the arms that swing up to allow the belt to be removed has been cracked. Either that or the pivot pin for one. One other thing I had once was one of the bearings for the rollers had come apart.

I fix this by replacing the transfer unit frame, and it workers fine here.
It will slide only a little bit, but not so much like before...
