MP 5054AZSP with SOP v1 Home Button does not work

    Hi there!

i'm on a case with a cheetah v1 panel where the home button does not work. It was not possible to try "key test" in the service program of the SOP. The Home Button is not displayed for check (???). And, it's not possible to do a SOP fw-update in recovery mode, because the Home Button has the "enter/execute" function.
I swapped the pcb i/o assy board and measured the flatcables (continuity ok) with no success The machine has the newest package firmware.

    Does somebody has any idea?

    Thanks in advance.

It's hard button so I guess the tiny micro switch underneath could be busted if it's had some heavy handed user abuse.

The Home Button is not displayed for check (???)
According to the G1 service manual that is correct, no home button check. (that's a bit strange, wonder why).

There is a small panel reset button on the side in-line with HOME button, have you tried that reset from the ready state?

Yes i have, even several times. The button "return", "menu" and "info" below the home button work normally.

The pcb i/o assy I swapped is the board with these all pushbuttons home, return, menu and info.

Hmmm very strange, could be new panel time.
Without a way to update or factory reset you are pretty much stuck.

Have you submitted a support ticket to the big R?

Have you tried using the Classic Copy function? It gives all the NOP keys on the touch screen. I have used it get into regular SP mode and into Touch Screen Calibration.

If you are having Touch Screen problems, before replacing the panel, try doing a full power reset.
          1. Power down
          2. Unplug power cord
          3. Press and hold power button. Power light will come on then go off once power supply has discharged.
          4. Plug power cord back in and machine should power up on its own.

Oh yes, the product support of RICOH Germany was over-questioned . I opened a ticket in RICESS.

Of course, I also tried that. Did not change anything.

Classic Copy function with the softbuttons on the top line brings only a temp. solution. I have already set that up to appease the customer a little.

I have had boards get cracked and the circuit traces get broken where they pass over the crack. Use stripped wire wrap wire to bridge the broken traces, then apply epoxy the entire crack for physical support.

I swapped the pcb, we can rule that out.

                    Ridiculous pricing.

You could buy 3 half decent Android tablets for that!

You are right there Cipher. Total cost of our servicing with all needed and used parts would amount over 2000 euros. The machine is a economical total damage.

We have in the past purchased a new machine purely to be used for loan and parts due to it being more financially viable than buying single standalone parts.

Totally ridiculous, I feel your pain, been stuck in the same scenario with a PSU on a Venus that was 1200 EUR.

Looking in the parts manual it looks like there are two cables that run from the side PCB to the main one. Have you tried replacing those or testing them?

Not yet, and does not make sense. It's just a USB A/B and 15 pin wire harness cable from IPU to the Cheetah V1 operation panel unit. There is a lot of GND ,+5V and some other signal function, but I don't see a single signal line special for the Home Button Switch. The Home Button switch is not in the direct line to the IPU board. The PCB i/o board (with Home Button Switch) is connected to other 2 boards in the Cheetah panel.
