[Misc] 2018d Scan to email issues

Here's the current setup:

The machine is connected to the network router via lan cable.

The machine is assigned a static IP, the gateway if the router's ip.

I can access the machine's settings using the web interface monitor.



I tried using the smtp features of free email providers such as gmail, gmx or yandex for scan to email but so far was not successful.

Using gmail failed almost instantly, citing no smtp in the log. GMX also failed but the log says wrong username/password. Yandex displays sending for a long time but then returns with a failed delivery.

I tried various configurations in the email settings of the machine. Even disabled delivery server.

I must be missing something here. Hope you can help me out. Thanks again.

Delivery server has nothing to do with email. It has to do with folder scan and then is only applicable to Scan Router V2. Scan Router V2 is obsolete and only runs on Windows XP or NT server or before.

I saw no mention of DNS setting. If there is no DNS set, you would have to have a local SMTP server in order to send email. Normally the first DNS server is your router. As this is an older MFP it might not support SMTP over SSL or TLS required by most current current SMTP servers. You should be able to use gmail, see the attached. The Restricted Gmail SMTP server settings. If not, you may have to set up a local relay such as stunnel.

The 2018D was released in 2004, and does not support SMTP over SSL or TLS; which all major email providers require.

Your best approach would be to either scan to FTP or folder (if using Windows 10 you can enable SMB v1 easily), or use an SSL tunnel.

Alternatively, you can setup a Gmail account, use the open Gmail relay to email to itself, then forward onto another destination.

I forgot to mention i already assigned the router's IP as the primary DNS.

I'll give the restricted gmail smtp settings a try. Thanks a lot. I'll post an update later.
