Jam Code 231 and JC 249

I had an issue with a C3503 recently with a SR3150 BKT FIN and PU3050 giving Jam Code 231. We had a C6003 in the showroom with the same FIN/PU combo so took the Punch Unit Assy (D7067506) and swapped it out. The problem seems to have resolved itself with the C3503 - no more Jam Code 231.
I then installed that Punch Assy from the C3503 on the showroom C6003 and all seemed well - we tested it for several days first thing in the morning and it always worked. We have since moved the C6003 to a customer site and guess what - Jam Code 231 and sometimes Jam Code 249. I have replaced the Punch Unit Assy (D7067506) and PU Control Board (D6885212) but the problem remains. When it fails to hole punch (JC 231) it stops in exactly the same place each time - approx 5MM short of the position where it should hole punch. There are no binds or wiring routing problems with the Reg'n Sensor Assy (there were several pictures of this on posts at the Ricoh forum). I am thinking of replacing either the Reg'n Sensor or the complete Reg'n Sensor Assy. The only wiring harness available through myRicoh is the harness from the FIN Control PCB to the Punch PCB (Harness-D7175590) so none of the various harnesses from the PU PCB to the sub assemblies are available (those were part of the swap between the C3503 and C6003).
Any help or thoughts would be appreciated.

not the same model, but i had a punch unit that somehow got a chad in a sensor and would cause it to jam up. check those sensors to see if a chad has worked its way up there.

From the service manual, 5.11.2 JAM CODES AND DISPLAY CODES, Booklet Finisher SR3170 J231 Jam in punch system motor R1-R4, J249 Main instruction data defect R1-R4.

So that is why the Punch Unit Assy (Jam Code 231) and Punch Unit Control Board (Jam Code 249) were replaced with NEW. Remember, there was no problem with either unit until they were swapped out from a SR 3150 Booklet Finisher with Jam Code 231 issues.

Thought I would update this post. What we finally did to correct this issue was to replace the complete Punch Unit. I had tried a new Reg'n Sensor as well but it made no difference. We ordered in an SR3140 Finisher with the Punch Unit and tested it with a MP C3503. The Punch Unit ran perfectly. We swapped out the Punch Unit on the MP C6003 and all seems fine now. I think the actual problem is "timing" related- we brought the Punch Unit back to the shop from the C6003 and it worked perfectly in the C3503.
