    CW2200 Won't load paper

Our shop just bought a used CW2200. It came still mostly assembled. When we try to load roll paper it will pull the paper in, chug along, then feed the paper out a few feet and suck it back in. It will repeat this again then eject the edge and say "reset paper feed location". Does this from roll feeder 1 or 2.

If we try to load cut sheets in the bypass it will cycle and then throw a jam.

I have already cleaned the DRESS sensor.

    Any ideas?

They can be very temperamental loading paper, sometimes it takes multi-able attempts (drives customers crazy).
    • Be sure to set the paper type first.
    • Guide the paper into the machine from the bottom of the roll.
    • Make sure that the leading edge of the paper passes over the top of the paper guide inside the machine.
    • Knowledge not shared, is eventually knowledge that becomes lost... like tears in the rain.

You have to have patience. Feed the paper in till the machine starts to feed it in. Drop the guide plate down and don't touch anything. It takes a couple of minutes for the machine to do it's thing. During this process if you look at the lower left on the display, it says not to open any covers, or something like that, and it means it. If you do, you have to start the process all over again. Also, you need a really nice, clean straight cut on the roll.

It's just plain paper. And it's getting through the guide. It will feed out about two feet of paper before just sucking it back in and giving up. The roll we are using is new and has a clean cut edge.

It doesn't have the output stacker on it because we did not receive all the parts for it, but I don't think that should matter.

Define plain, please. And see if the machine defines it that way as well.

Like 20lb bond, but in 36 inch roll form. No coatings.

For giggles I tried setting the paper type to one of the several other options and the machine reacted the same.

So, I set the paper type to Translucent and it loaded up. Which is making me think something has gone wrong.

Do you have you any jam location counts or any service code history on the SMC logging?

No jam codes other than 001 jams when trying to load bypass and no SC codes. It doesn't want to reload even using transparent now.

                    Hmmm.

Apart from scrubbing up the rollers and replacing some PF sensors there isn't much else that I can suggest.
There is the sub scan (feed) encoder disk and sensors as well.

                    Good luck.

Oh, cool, you've used all sorts of wrong paper settings.
                      But that's not helpful.

Actually, it wouldn't hurt to check the paper roll present sensor in the drawer. That's about the only time I've seen anything like this. Turns out some wide format machines will feed the paper through even when the roll sensor doesn't detect the paper roll, but will retract it right back in the fullness of time after it still can't detect it.
That's kind of why I asked about the plain paper, wide format machines really are that sensitive about the paper type, otherwise they would suck at printing.

I tried this AFTER using the correct paper setting.

This machine does not have a drawer, the rolls just sit in the open in holders.

We have replaced the DRESS sensor on advice from Ricoh support but it didn't make a difference. Waiting on a recall from them.

Well looks like I've solved the problem. Decided to go with the nuclear option and do an engine memory clear after backing up the NVRAM and saving the non default report to an SD. After doing that it loaded paper quite nicely. Of course print quality was trash. Restored the NVRAM and then looked at the non default report.

SP1952-011 "skew adjustment" was set to 0.01, the default is 0.50. Set it back to default and the machine loads paper easily now. My guess is that with it set to that the machine could not reach such a tiny skew amount to make itself happy and thus rejected the paper.

                            1952 Skew Adjustment DFU
                            1 Skewed Value
Sets the value for the second reading after correction.
                            [0 to 1/0.5/0.01 %]
                            2 Skewed Value on Ejecting
Sets the value of the third reading after correction.
                            [1 to 10/3/0.01 %]
                            3 Measuring Length
The length of paper fed between the first and second reading by the DRESS
                            sensor.
                            [50 to 300/100/1 mm]
                            4 Correcting Length
The length of paper feed to correct skew. The vertical motor rotates forward
while the roll feed motor in the roll feeder rotates in reverse.
                            [300 to 2000/800/100 mm]
