[Misc] MP7503sp with a Fax Unit. Error msg Reduce paper in the trays to the limit mark or

    Hi Guys

Anyone perhaps know why a MP7503 with a Fax unit installed will give the error "REDUCE PAPER IN THE TRAYS TO THE LIMIT MARK OR RESET IT CORRECTLY"?
I have never seen this on a MP6002/6503 series machine, unless there is a fax unit on it?

    Any ideas?

    Thanks

I never figured that one out, of course I never bothered to do any research either. It does that on a lot of models. They will copy & print just fine, but the fax will give you that error.

Hopefully somebody has an answer on how to stop it from displaying.

We just had that show up on a 5055. tech removed the tandem tray and other trays and cleaned all the sensors in there. three days later and no issues so far.

I had something similar to this on a c5502, and I think I had to replace one of the feed units to alleviate the issue.
I just checked my service history, the machine would say "add paper" when trying to print a fax or a confirmation sheet. I indeed had to replace the #1 feed unit to fix the issue, even though the machine was programmed to feed paper from tray 3 for faxes (confirmation sheets fed from tray 1). This issue only occurred with faxes.

If it has the Tandem Tray on it, make sure that the bottom plate on the right side, that lifts up and down, isn't lower on one side than the other (front to back). I believe there are two sensors in the tray that determine where the plate is at, and if they aren't getting the same reading, then it might give you a message like that. Can't remember how to adjust the plate if it is angled. Something to Check anyway.

            Hi Guys

This is a brand new machine, so the issue relates to the Fax unit installed, and not dirt or wear. It also sometimes say"EMPTY THE FAX TRAY", but there is no fax tray??

It's not unlikely that a new machine will throw this message. We had one with less than 10,000 on it showing that message, and it ended up being the plate in the right side of tandem. If you can, swap that tray into another machine (if available), and see if the problem follows that tray. Customers slam those things all the time causing all sorts of issues, or when it gets delivered, it can get a good bump and jar things out of place slightly. Also check the Stacker guides in that tray and make sure they aren't hanging up on the paper. See if there's a little scrap of paper in feed station, or behind tray. Do output check on lift motor for that tray and see if it's struggling. I can almost guarantee it's something with that tandem. Have had a handful of calls on this and other series that were fixed by any of the above mentioned items.

Thanks FrohnB, for your suggestion. We have hundreds of these machines,(we still have MP6500's out there) and only senior Techs work on them. I will ask the tech to check that again, but that will not explain the "Empty Fax Tray" Message that also pops up in between?

Finisher Top exit tray is setup as default for fax. It pops up when the tray is empty, and it is located where sun can shine on the sensor at a certain time of day.(I have had that problem before)

I must mention, we do not have a lot of them with the fax unit installed. This issue is also mentioned in older forums where it only happens on machines with fax units.

                Thanks again

I have encountered that frequently with finisher proof trays such as trying to print SMC report or counter.
The cause: Ambient light in a well lit room with low ceilings or direct sunlight shining on the sensor in the proof tray.
The solution: Use a piece of card stock or construction paper to shade the sensor.

I'm buggered if I know how to rid that message as well...we still get the odd 03 machine that does it.
I've even tried allocating a different tray as the feed tray for faxing..that sometimes fixes it..but not always.
I've had a few customers where this messages comes up after they have overfilled the drawer but again...not always.
All I could find in the knowledge base was :

"Reduce paper in tray" message when printing fax
                    Product MP C3003SP
Associated Products MP C3503SP; MP C4503SP; MP C5503SP; MP C6003SP
Resolution The issue has been resolved by removing a piece of paper stuck in the sensor at the rear of LCT.

                      Hi Oze

Yes, thanks for the input. I have also asked the tech to designate tray 2 for fax and do the latest firmware, although I have not seen any fixes for fax on the release notes. The weird thing to me, is the term FAX TRAY that is also displayed from time to time, since the MP7503 does not have a FAX TRAY? We wait and see if it comes back again

It might be referring to the default feed or exit tray specified in User Tools.

It is not called a fax tray in user tools, but the point is, is getting the term from the Fax Firmware
