MPC2500 Color Registration

I have a MPC2500 the magenta registration keeps moving +30dots (about 2mm). Forced line position adjustments correct the problem until machine enters energy saver or is powered off. I changed values to the line position adjustment conditions but it would return to its default value when powered off. I even turned the automatic line position adjustment off to see the result and it was turned back on when power was cycled. Machine has had all the firmware updated and I just replaced the ITB unit based on tech support recommendation. I cleaned the bank of sensors and ordered them just in case. I suspect it might be NVRAM losing some of its value when powered off/on, but I am unsure at this time.

Any ideas?

I would agree with replacing the NVRam, sounds like it's just not storing the values - Flash Memory can get flaky after so many write cycles, It's supposed to be in the 100k+ range, but anything made by man...

Have you cleaned the laser slit glass? Had a similiar problem with cyan and the dust glass was coated with toner and the machine could not get a good reading.

Laser unit was just replaced less than a month ago and the glass is still clean.

Problem Solved!

BICU NVRAM was the fix. I did not realize this machine had 2 NVRAMs (Controller & BICU).

Glad you got it resolved. Did you lose your meter readings and serial number after you changed that?

No and Yes. The meters are stored on the controller's NVRAM, so they were not lost. The serial number was erased and service mode was in Japanese. I had to enter factory service mode to change language and serial number. Then I was able to download the NVRAM settings that was saved to a SD card.
