What vsg and vsp stand for_

Hi.


I would like to know what vsg and vsp stand for, I do not need their meaning related to the operation of the machine, I need to know the word for each letter.

All it's ever listed as is:
Vsg: ID sensor output when checking the bare drum.
Vsp: ID sensor output when checking the ID sensor pattern.

But I believe it's along the lines of:
Vsg = Voltage sensor ground
Vsp = Voltage sensor pattern


Someone may correct me, it's been a while since I was in the field.

I like Excelsiors educated guess...... Remember the Core Technology course from the old days on Image formation and control? The "V" in VSG and VSP refers to a type of sensor. Process control in copiers used either a "Potential Sensor"(latent image control) in one type of system

Or or a "V" sensor---- A reflective photosensor similar to the modern ID sensor that is used to indirectly measure the drum potential (image density control)in a different type of system.

Seems plausible that the V refers to Voltage detected/measured by the Erased or bare drum (VSG) and Voltage detected/measured by the pattern measured by the "V" sensor(VSP).

Now, moving on to modern times...the V sensor is old technology replaced by the ID sensor.........but the terminology VSG and VSP still exists but refers to the id sensor output Voltage not the V sensor output. Leftover terminology. Really should be called IdVSG and IdVSP instead of VSG and VSP.

Bare drum (Vsg) when correct is 4.0 volts. The machine adds toner and tries to keep Vsp at one eighth the value of Vsg or .5V
There is much more but that is enough boredom for today.

The older models used to have a lot more information on process control in the detailed descriptions section, section isn't even included in many current Service Manuals. Some models now have it as an addition manual.
