    Ricoh 1232c Duplex Jams

Hi have an ongoing problem with a 1232c that jams in the duplex. I have a jam code of 069. I've changed all the clutches, the duplex rollers, duplex sensors, fuser parts etc.

Any ideas other than chuck it in the skip?

Normally the registration clutch can cause duplex jams or even late timing of the second side, also i think the upper transport clutch can play a big part here also, if you have changed these clutches then i would look at the junction gate ass'y as it can get warped with heat and catch the paper as it gets diverted to the duplex.
Networking skills are advantageous but use of a 3m vacuum cleaner is essential

Yeah I've recently changed those clutches. Have you had any warping in the Interchange Unit?

I seem to recall a similar issue with the interchange. I think it was an issue with the actuator not returning on a sensor in the unit. I would check the idlers for proper contact of the driven rollers and maybe some warpage in the guides. I don't recall if this has one or two sensors in that unit, but check the sensors, actuators and how well they return after actuation. Swap the unit out if you've got parts machines. Hopefully if you've still got these units in the field, there are some around for scavaging parts from.

Is it a high volume machine? Has the energy save or auto off times been maxed out?

I will check that next visit. I changed an Interchange Unit at a different customer a year or so ago. They had had constant jams.
Could be the solution to my problem. Thanks

The interchange sits over top of the fuser so it's exposed to a good bit of heat over it's life. Especially if the energy save and shut off are maxed out. I'd swap it out with another one. Besides, this machine is now 6 years old or more. Seems like you need to send out a smooth talking salesperson to get them to upgrade.

Whatever is wrong with it you tell the customer that you can't get the parts. It's called a Mercy Killing, and no jury in the world will convict you for putting one of these junkers out of everyone's misery.
