When I arrived at the customer, the copier was displaying "toner cartridge not set". This was a full genuine Ricoh toner bottle, so I tried another the customer had (Compatible) and nothing changed. I then reached into the back of the bottle holder to clean the contacts, and this helped to recognize the comp. bottle, but not the genuine Ricoh, however now the display is reading "toner near end" and won't stop. I told the customer I would return to complete troubleshooting. The copier was at least currently operational.
I didn't have a service manual at the time, so after I was able to access the Service Manual & Handbook, I tried researching the cause for these symptoms.
Does anyone know if the (K) toner pump could cause the continuous "near end" condition?
I suspect that this problem maybe caused the first problem because the customer was installing and uninstalling the two toner bottles that they had, and maybe deformed the contacts on the detection board. (I haven't yet pulled out this part to inspect - I will when I return).
I appreciate any help I can get on this problem.
