Look on the drum for bare areas that the charge roller or transfer belt can get an easy path to ground thru.
Lot's of times it will give an sc990 for that but not always.

Check the A2 plate just before the drum. Sometimes the paper gets hung on that longer than it should and can give you this jam. I think there was also an update for that guide to keep this from happening...

Sometimes you may get strange fuser/exit jams if the press roller is overaged or far over it's pm range.

Does the machine jam from all of the paper trays? Maybe wrong paper size selection? If not that, then maybe paper feed clutch.
Don't take that toner with me!

Have 2 frequent problems in that area on this series machine - first duplex/exit gate tends to stick - there is a tiny rubber pad near the solenoid for that gate that starts to deteriorate and hangs up the gate. Unfortunately you have to pull the scanner to get to it...

Less common, but still annoying is the sensor that sits in the guide on the door just above the fuser. It just sits there and bakes until it fails. Sometimes it will test good, but just doesn't respond fast enough

It does sound like it's the link cushions causing the jams.

I usually only see this when you try and duplex, as the entrance junction gate that opens to path the paper into the duplex unit is the one that seems to stick the most. Removing the pads isn't too hard, and should only take 10-15 minutes. I'd just remove the pads rather than replace them, if they're the cause of the problem.

One quick way to determine if the pads are sticking is to open the side door on the interchange unit so you can feel the gate. Try to move it back and forth, putting pressure on it at its home position. If it sticks a bit when you try and move it again, remove the link cushions.

Another test is to run an output check for the Exit Junction Gate Solenoid (5804-041, I think). You should be able to hear the solenoid easily actuate. If it doesn't move, seems to be late, or sounds like it's not working properly, look at the pads.
