Good afternoon.... Are you faxing to/from a VOIP telephone line? If you are, there are some settings that you'll need to adjust to get a fairly consistent fax TX/RX. VOIP telephone lines and faxes do not play well together!! Anytime you're bored on a Saturday, do a Google search on "Fax problems with VOIP", and after you've scrolled through the first 2.4 million results, you'll see it's a "known issue".

Here's a tech bulletin from Ricoh that may help with your fax settings.

    Good luck.

The fact that the customer is using the same voice line over the years doesn't mean the provider didn't change things without notice. I'd start by getting in touch with the provider and ask them about their voice line specifications...

Here in Bakersfield been in the processing replacing copper with fiber on the poles and underground. In some areas they are bringing fiber all the way to the MDB. Fiber = VOIP.

            could be a VoIp issue..

me thinks more of a block on a area code..

check machine..plug a external handset in .. listen for noise ..then dial # they use.. do you get static? ( might not be on your end ) ...does it give a verbal message? Code error?

verizon att - century link... all say that.. get on site and do your own diags... get with CO IT guys.. have they changed any thing? still analog line? NO? setup VoIP
just cuz " they never had it before" doesn't mean diddly .. ALL other area codes work.. must be a block.

              HI
Thanks for all the help. The customer and the line being sent to have not changed,Both are not using or have switched to VOIP.
I will go and ck. line like you suggest Phil B.
Can you tell me what you mean by a block? The customer has another office and sends faxes ok to the same "518" numbers.
Can some setting in machine prevent it from sending to just one area code?
Thanks for listening to my sometimes simple minded questions and any more insight you can offer.
              THANKS AGAIN, ANDY

a block can be via the phone system or the machine . print out fax config & error report .. compare to the codes in SM

Yes.. it can be.. maybe the pre-dial setup for the code..

it could be a bad switch on your trunk... but the Fone co will always try to tell you the " line is fine " damn poets...
do you have a phone set to use in wall and headset jack?

This will apply to ANY newer Savin/Ricoh device trying to fax over a VOIP or Fiber line. VOIP does not play well with faxing...a quick Google search will show you over 10 Million hits that will attest to that!

The settings in the worksheet I posted are basically "Dumbing Down" the Ricoh fax board to allow for the glitches, signal breaks and drops that VOIP lines do on a regular basis! The Key is the letter "V".... it's a VOICE over IP. We can hear a momentary 'hiccup" in someone's speech on a voice line, and our brain will compensate for it easily. A FAX board hears the same hiccup, and loses its mind!!

Faxes work best over standard twisted pair copper lines from send to delivery... we don't have that anymore. We have to convince that 1980's technology to work in the new millennium!!

                    Best of luck!
