[Error Code] MPC2011 Error SC120 randomly

    Good evening!

I'm posting this in hopes that someone else already had this problem before and can push me in the right direction.

This one machine gives out randomly SC120 errors - it can give it twice during one day and then can go for two or three days without any hicup.

According to the customer it happens mostly when scanning from the ARDF - but they say it also happened when no one was working on the machine.

    What we tried so far:

    Flash firmware
    Replace Scanner belt
    Replace HP sensor
Cleaning and lubrication of the optic rails
    Replace Scanner Motor
    Replace SIO
    Check ITB HV contacts
    Replace SBU
    Replace IPU

    What are we missing?

    Have a nice weekend everyone.

SC120-00 D Scanner Home Position error
The home position is not correct when the main power is turned ON, at the end of a reading process from the exposure glass and ARDF.
    • Scanner motor defective
    • Scanner HP sensor defective
    • SBU defective
    • BiCU defective
    • Controller board defective
    • Scanner motor defective
    • Scanner HP sensor defective
      1. Check that the scanner HP sensor is correctly positioned.
      2. Reconnect the following connectors.

      3. Replace the scanner HP sensor.

    • SBU defective
      Replace the scanner unit.
    • BiCU defective
      Replace the BiCU.
    • Controller board defective
      Replace the controller board.

Something else to check is the ribbon cable. Sometimes you get cracks in the wires and there'll be random strange errors that'll be the bane of your existence.

    Good luck,

I had this in MPC3001 and found out the guy who replaced the PTR assembly had 1 screw loose. It gets grounded somewhere. It throws up SC120 when copying/scanning from flatbed.
        Aye! Cut the crap

Something same happened with me once, One engineer put longer screw in side cover. So lamp carriage was just able to touch home sensor , due to which machine was giving intermittent home sensor error.
May be this is not be applicable in your case, but worth checking.

          Hope this helps

Thank you all, I'll visit the customer tomorrow and will add all those tips to my list of things to check out.

What ribbon cable specifically are you refering to?

            Cheers!

Possibly a dumb question, I didn't remember the lamp assy was fed by a ribbon cable - or could you be referring to some other I am missing?

              Mondays...

The lamp assembly ribbon cables were what I had an issue with. Good luck with the beast

                        1. Move the scanner carriage by hand to check whether it is unusually difficult to move.
                        2. Check that the scanner driving belt is not disengaged.
                        3. Reconnect the following connector.
Scanner Motor – Controller Board connector
                        4. If the connector is broken, shorted, or grounded, replace the connector.
                        5. Replace the scanner motor.

                      Good luck,
Thank you all for your feedback.

When I last went to that customer (12th of December, if I'm not mistaken - EDIT: 15th), the machine hadn't thrown the code since the 6th - so, I checked and re-checked everything I did before, plus the scanner flat cable (disconnected and reconnected it on both ends), and left it at that.

Now the customer is saying the machine is back at it.

Guitar9199, my service manual doesn't mention the Control Board. Is that data you pasted here for the same model?

I think I'll try that next.

                      Thanks again.
