    AF2020D - Address Book Problem

    Hi All,

I had a job recently to add a scan to email user on an AF2020D. Prior to this, this machine was used for faxing, copying and printing only so the address book only contained fax users (as user codes etc were not implemented). I managed to add the user via the control panel as per normal and it accepted the user all ok (assigned user to quick dial 32). When i selected the scanner button and then pressed quick dial 32 (and yes i made sure the flap was flipped as well as the letter icon (scan to email) on the LCD screen), it gave me the error: this destination is not programmed. I also searched for a scan to email user via the search by list method with no results, only the above previous error message. I immediately went back into Key Op Tools in System settings however noticed the "Address Book Management" option was gone - definitely not there.

A reboot of the copier brings back the address book management link. I decided to re-program one of the existing fax users however it gave me the error: this user is not programmed, yet if i were to use the fax function and select that user's quick dial key, it would still pick up the fax destination and successfully send a fax to it as well.

I later performed SP 5846-50. This did "not" clear the address book. If i were to press the quick dial keys for previous fax users, they would still show up and work. However, if i went into the address book and then tried to re-program these previous fax users (which are still there), it then gave me the screen as if i was creating a new user.

ie, to clear things up if you're lost - Fax destination FAX1 is set to quick dial 01. when i press quick dial 01, FAX1 shows up on the LCD screen. If i go into the address book and program/change registration 01, it gives me a blank name field. no fax details are contained in this profile.

Something is seriously wrong here so if anyone can let me know of where i could look it would be great.

lastly, where does this address book reside? This machine has a print/scan unit as well. thanks in advance.

    regards,
    Steve

where does this address book reside?
On this model it's on a small NVRAM chip on the GW/controller PCB (not the NVRAM on the BICU).

Not 100% sure but the fax option may store it's address book data on a chip on the FCU PCB.
Which might explain why the fax information is still present but the scan user information stored on the NVRAM on GW PCB is missing.

Try clearing fax memory by taking the jumper off the FCU PCB which will cut the battery backup power.

      Hi,

Thanks for the suggestions.. i will definitely check these locations.

Lastly, i dont really want to clear the fax users from the address book as i am unable to print out a list of the users and due to the users not being in the address book, however, if this is the only way, then it must be done.

will try this on monday and get back with results..thanks again.

        May be a related problem!

I have had issues with the MP 2000le
and programming address book entries, the print/scan option was placed in the wrong slot at runup. This may not be your fault but I thought the below info may be useful to others.

Cannot program the Address Book via WIM. Only a limited number of options are available.

        ProductAficio MP 2000Le
Associated ProductsAficio MP 1600Le; Aficio MP 161SPF
ResolutionThe Print/Scan SD Card was in the wrong slot. It needs to go in the very bottom slot (Slot 1). After putting it in the bottom slot (Slot 1) run SP5-846-050 to re-initialise the Address Book as the machine won't automatically realise it has been moved to Slot 1.

        Further explanation:
The MP 1600Le/2000Le are VERY different beasts compared to the previous models (AF2016/2020). The previous models had two slots with Slot 1 at the TOP, however the new models have three slots with Slot 1 at the BOTTOM and Slot 3 at the top. Because this third slot is approx 5 inches away from the other two, nobody sees it and assumes that the two slots that are adjacent to each other are the same as for the previous model.

          hi

thanks for the input.. i've definitely looked at the slots as a cause as i have had machines (whom others have run up) not work for me when i've gone to add users to the address book.

I've spoken to Ricoh as well and we've also double checked the SD card location. I've tried the the SP mode mentioned and it has made no difference. The fax users are still there - i'm yet to do the jumper switch on the FCU. However saying this, the SP mode mentioned has cleared the users from the addres book (remember fax users are still there though, maybe due to fax user information storage on FCU) however it will still not accept re-programming. it's happy enough to allow all information to be input and saved, yet when you go back into double check information for that user, nothing is available (empty profile).

            Strange!!

I would print out a full SMC report and backup NVRAM. Remove rear cover and remove expansion board that plugs into main board re-seat it (always feels abit dodgy when you install it for the first time). Remove cover on expansion box and re-seat all boards and memory chip. Plug in power and test. If still no good do a memory all clear and test. If still no good load backed up NVRAM and run!
