    Touch Screen Problems

Any body noticed an increase in touch screen failures in the new range of copiers?
Had a lot go out of adjustment and quite a few so far out all we can do is replace the screen. We would normal change 1 every two to three months, mainly due to customer abuse, but this month we've changed 5 already!

When they fail do they do so immediately or is there a loss in sensitivity first?

RJ has just released a RTB saying they have upgraded the conective glue that hold the screens together. So far there is only a new part number for the MP C2500/4500 range. Hope they come up with one for the MP 4500 soon as we have changed 18 of these touch screens this year. Also had to cheange a few on the 3224 range.

Didn't any one else have problems?

Sorry Techhead, should have got back to you sooner. The techs tell me that the screens were working fine one day and failed the next. Some times they could get them back into adjustment, some times they were so far out they couldn't do any thing with them other than replace them.

It's funny you ask that because in our satellite office we had a few touch screens go bad. When the machines were sent back to our main office, they said they worked fine, WTF??? They were 3035/45 series, so a bit older than the models listed.

Anyway, I told them they don't work, and when they sent the machines out on demo, hehe, they STOPPED working!!!! I got a phone call saying I was right.

My problems were more of the non-responsive screens, rather than literally falling apart. Nonetheless, it still sucks either way. But it seems as though problems are still following on models since then.

Maybe the whole panel frame is skewed - this can force some unwanted pressure to the border of the touch screen so it can't respond correctly. You can test this if you disassemble the panel and try to run it without the housing components.
