    Ricoh RW-240 SCSI card working?

Have a customer who's HDD died in an XP machine . Replaced and reinstalled Windows but the SCSI card was not found by Windows. Tried Add Hardware but nothing. Moved to a different PC with same result. Brought card back to office and put into Vista and 2000 machines same result. Tried multiple PCI slots. LED's do light on card. Card would have to be ordered from Germany, costs is $1,000+ to replace, and will take weeks. Needless to say customer is .

    Any suggestions?

BTW, this concludes my overuse of smileys.

      Ratio D2 driver

Did you reinstall the D2 driver? XP does not have a native driver for the scsi card. It has to be installed. To check:

Start--Control Panel--System--Hardware Tab--Device Manager (or right click on My computer--properties--system Hardware tab--device manager). I can't remember how it's labeled in the device manager but I believe its under Other controllers or something like that. Look for the D2 Ratio driver. If thats not there then you will have to install the driver from the disk (or TSC website).

      Good luck

        Not SCSI

This is not a SCSI card - it's a completely unique animal. The driver is on the Plotbase install disk.

Does not play well with Vista - does anything???

          Thanks but...

As stated, the card was installed into multiple XP boxes at the customer's account before bringing it back to our office to be test in a 2000 box then finally a Vista box so Vista doesn't have anything to do with the problem.

I cannot install the D2 driver because Windows does not recognize that interface card (sorry not an SCSI card, just used to dealing with them...) exists in the PCI slot.

          Thanks anyway.

Without the driver it shows up in device manager as a Simple PCI Communications controller - must not be so simple for $1000. Throw in the PlotBase disk, click update driver, and it should find it. If not you have a bad card, but that's unlikely if the original computer problem was really a bad HDD.

              I agree

Thanks Shadow1 but no Simple PCI controller shows up. Talked to support on it and we agree that it was probably more than just a bad HDD or that something happened during the replacement of the bad HDD.

BTW, the procedure is to send the bad card to Germany so they can destroy it then they'll send a new license key for the new board.

Just a warning... you might want to watch how your maintenance contracts are written for this type of a situation.

Darn those Germans!! Are they still mad about the war??

Had a tech telling me about a problem he was having with a 1224 and cut to a really good Japanese accent: "Special for you American technician! Hiroshima Revenge!"

I've never had one of these cards go bad, but if you tried it in several different computers that pretty much seals the deal. Call Ricoh Tech services, they may be able to transfer your licenses without all that hassle (800)333-3147. You'll need a Ricoh Tech ID, but they will give you info to get one if you don't already have it.
