    Ricoh 3045 LDAP idiocy...

    Let me get this straight...

I can use LDAP for walk-up user authentication... But I can't specify what needs authentication and what doesn't?

I only need to inconvenience the users if they want to scan&email something, not for simply copies etc...

Let me know if I'm missing something.
    Thanks!

Choose what you want to have to authenticate for in the authentication set-up. In other words, just highlight scanning, faxing, for example and not copying.

Hey man, thanks for the reply. I get what you are saying, as I've done that for "User Code" authentication before; Unfortunately, when using LDAP, that level of granularity disappears. I'm not a copier tech myself, just an IT guy, so I don't have a "TechID" for Ricoh's tech support, but I was able to get an engineer from a relatively large VAR on the line, and he said that indeed, it was impossible to get the granularity that I'm looking for.

        Hmmm, you're VAR is wrong

I'd suggest that maybe you have some one who does have a "TechID' come and help you resolve the issue. I would assume you have that resource available to you...just saying.....

As I wrote in the post directly above yours, that's exactly what I did. Just saying....

            SP mode 5?

I know on the newer models MPC4500 for eg you can specify which function you want to enable for windows authentication through service mode 5-401. I am assuming it would be the same for this model for LDAP auth as well. Once you have turned on LDAP auth the SP-mode becomes available. C,F,P and S represents the modes you can disable. Will do more research when I have a machine at my side.

Thanks for the reply Scott. I wish we had the option of getting newer models, but I think my crusty fleet of 8045s are going to be around for a few more years, barnacles and all...

You need access to the service mode!

I set up Windows authentication the other day and used the below service mode to only restrict the scanner mode. By adjusting the setting SP 5-401-06, 5-401-16, 5-401-26, 5-401-46 in service mode (if its a 0 change to 1 or the otherway round can't remember)

Below is a cut and paste job from the 3045 service manual so I believe it will work in your case for LDAP auth as well. Its a pain to have to enter your credentials everytime you want to make a copy!!!
