Have a machine that has a bad hard drive on it,i removed the hard drive and it gives me a error code sc870 but the machine still works,my question
is can i remove this code some how and the second question is how do i
format a new drive if have to put a new one in.The reason i removed the
hard drive was i never could get the machine to get out of please wait mode.

enter service mode and use 5832-1 to format all. other choices are available in there as well. I would reinstall the hdd and try formatting that first, if that fails replace the drive

Even if 5832 works have a new drive on standby - they usually fail again within 3 months

Is the service mode on this machine c-1-0-7-clear\stop

Sometimes the hard drive doesn't need to be formatted on these machines, simply installing it will make the machine work, but format it anyway for good measure using the SP mode stated above.

Have installed a new harddrive and formatted it with code 5832-1 and machine still will not boot up untill i remove hard drive. Is there anything else i need to do the hard drive to get it work.

Check for +5V and +12V on the HDD power harness if these are in spec you have a bad data cable or controller board.

Replace with no less than an 80GB, you should'nt have to format it.
