I'm missing the connecting cable from the fiery to the c651, will a crossover cable work? or will I have to pony up for a new cable...

Try it, nothing to lose! I'm not sure if the NIC's in the Fiery are auto switching so a straight through cable may also work. It's 106 miles to Chicago. We've got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark and we're wearing sunglasses.

I’m about 100% sure it’s a crossover.
Try it, if it works, you may want to pony up and get a Cat 6 grade crossover. That’s what the original was.
The specs are much better on a Cat 6 compared to Cat 5. I highly doubt that there is any correction (or tolerance) between the Fiery and the copier.“I think you should treat good friends like a fine wine. That’s why I keep mine locked up in the basement.” - Tim HawkinsComment

Re: Pro c651ex with fiery e-41a controller
I just checked the product support guide for the Fiery.
Not only is it a crossover, but the original was 39.3 feet (or 12 meters) long.
While that seems overly lengthy, and most likely is in almost all cases, keep in mind that you may need that length as this is a production machine, and it can grow quite large if enough of the available options are added.
While the PSG does not mention Cat6, it would be suicide to use Cat5, as it is a true Gigabit connection. I would think it would cause weird printing issues that would manifest themselves in all kinds of cute and creative ways. As I mentioned before, there is near if not zero error correction or tolerance, as there would be in a “normal” network.“I think you should treat good friends like a fine wine.
