2238c, pre 3 hole punched paper, 5 pages

Strangley the 5th page comes out with the holes on the wrong side.

I'm sure this is some goofy setting somewhere but I cant find it.

    TIA
    and Happy New Year!

Does it happen from the print or copy function only, or both? Are the pages duplexed or single sided? It sounds like a firmware problem, but I didn't see anything specific in the history for it.

Didn't try copying. They were printing accounts recieveable from peachtree. I printed the AR to a pdf and then tried printing it (with the same result).

Try doing the same thing from the copier function. If it does the same thing you're probably looking at firmware or something funny in the logic. If not, try updating the driver, especially if the customer is using the RPCS driver. There were a lot of quirks with the earlier versions. The latest and greatest on the Ricoh website is v 7.61. For PCL 5c the latest is 3.1

        Good luck...

Just had the customer try in copy mode and it worked fine. I'm going to go there next week. I'll delete the drivers and re-add them. BTW it does the same thing with both PCL and RPCS so I don't know if updating drivers will fix it but maybe deleting and updating may fix some setting that was changed.

          I'll post back.

Here's what I can offer. I agree with the driver updates. In addition, is the customer duplexing? In duplex mode the machine prints the backside of the page first...is the tray designated as 'Special' or 'punched paper'? If not the machine thinks it can print on either side for the last page without any issues like the one you have. I'd also do firmware just because I'm a firmware addict.

Got to be a firmware - if it was mechanical it would not punch consistently. If it was a sensor, you would eventually get mysterious jams. The question is has it been fixed in the latest revision?

shadow...they are using pre-punched paper per the title so the punch unit is out of the loop.

oops missed that - well, there's your problem - customer needs to buy a punch unit.

I'll make a bet the first 4 pages are duplex and the last page is blank on the back - copier is smart enough not to flip the last page twice, but it works fine in copy mode because it assumes the last page is duplexed also.

I stand by my second diagnosis - customer needs a punch unit.

Is there a setting for prepunched paper on this model???

I haven't looked at the 2232c since the problem started but my POS 1232 does have a pre-punched setting. I'm going out there Monday I'll let ya'll know what I find.

I don't think this model has a pre-punch pape type but it does have pre-printed paper setting which would/should give you the desired result. It would tell the machine which side you want to print on. Maybe???

Run for your lives!!! A 1224c is better for something than a 2238c - THE END IS NEAR!!!

Surely you are mistaken - although it does make sense we know more about the crappy machine's capabilities since we see so much more of them...

Welp. I went out and change the setting on the copier for the lower tray to be "letterhead" then told the print driver to print to "letterhead" and it worked lovely-ly.

                              Thanks for the suggestions.
