    2045 esp copying slow

We installed a 2045esp and noticed how slow it copies. Stops in the ADF in the middle of the run then resume.

Machine has a 40gb hard drive and 256mb of memory.

Any ideas what would cause this to happen?

How many originals are being scanned?

The only thing that comes to mind is mixed original mode, which makes the machine 'look' at each page to determine its size, but this needs to be selected under special original, and usually is defaulted off.

These machines do start scanning originals quickly and then slow down after a while normally (maybe as memory fills up?). As long as you are getting 45 cpm out, It sounds like it could be normal.

Had this problem in another thread - bad HDD. Copiers are pretty picky about latency on their drives, so the drive might pass all the QC checks at the factory, and will run perfectly fine in a computer, but a copy machine or printer won't like it

This machine will run w/no HDD. You will lose duplex and sort functions only. You can temporarily disconnect it if you think it is causing the problem.

          HDD on 2045

We tried without the HDD and it worked. Lost duplex and finisher in the process which is correct. Replaced with 40 gig HD and the problem still happened.

          What about controller board?

Was the new hard drive the same brand? Try a different brand or something :\ could make a difference?

But by disconnecting the hard drive, and finding it works, it's more likely going to be the hard drive than the controller itself. But I guess it wouldn't hurt to atleast try.

I guess you could swap a hdd in from a working unit as a final test - you'll likely get an SC code. Execute SP5832-004 to rewrite the serial number or 5832-001 to format the entire drive, reboot and test...

              Check the cable as well

also check the self diagnostic report 5990-005 to make sure the correct amount of ram is being reported

HDD.... found this many times to be the case. However, if you replaced the hdd and that didn't take care of it then I would say it was your controller board. Never had to go that far with it though..
