    SC 442 CODE

    Hi
    I just got a email with a mpc3501 that shows a SC 442
    dirty or bad ITB sensor..
I looked at my parts manual and it only shows the whole ITB unit and cleaning unit.
Is this the sensor that detects the handle is locked?
    I never seen this code.
    thanks

Check the ITB contact motor in your output checks.

If it is the sensor that I think it is, it might be located above the ITB on the rear frame near the on-off motor for the color transfer rollers, possibly on the same bracket. It reads the encoder strip near the rear edge of the belt. More often than not the sensor is just dirty from dust/toner or the encoder strip is damaged.

When I get this code I normally see a torn belt or shredding along the edge. Usually just replace the belt and cleaning unit for good measure. Also a messed up ptr unit can cause too.

The ITB (Image Transfer Belt) Contact Motor Moves the ITB into contact and away from the color PCU's

You will have to remove the controller box to get at that motor. The sensor is mounted on the motor assembly. Clean it and if you are lucky----it's fixed. In my experience replacing that motor is usually what works though. I think the part# is D0891199. The sensor is included with the motor.

Its most likely just a ripped belt, best to go see the fault before thinking about the worst case scenario.

There should be a white marker timing mark on the rear edge of the ITB. if this is damaged it will throw up the code or cause colour alignment problems.

I went and belt is fine but ITB does not try to cycle.
I pulled controller and removed the ITB drive motor and sensor, cleaned sensor and
                        STILL sc 442..
I cleaned the one sensor on OP side of ITB unit..
                        Still sc 442.
SO i guess i will pull a motor and sensor..
I did not see any sensors that read a ITB belt timing mark..
I have a mpc2800 in my Scrap pile i will look at closer

We have an internal bulletin that says to replace the motor as it fails under load.

Indeed. SC442 is usually the motor, D0891199.
It's 106 miles to Chicago. We've got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark and we're wearing sunglasses.

                            Hit it.

ok so i went back with a tested ITB drive motor and photo sensor.
After swapping out it still coded sc442 so i pulled ITB unit and removed cleaning unit and
                              tested again,no good,
I was able to get a single copy pass after mucking around but still only fuser motor would spin,no ITB motor nor 4 drum/dev motors.
After going thru the parts manual I see that odd motor above drum/dev motors is the contact motor.
So i pull both motor and photo sensor above it and install and now all is working............I only have a hand full of these in the field
                              but they are solid designs...
