Ricoh Aficio MP 2554 scanner vibration

I've got a MP 2554 that has a vibration about 3-4 inches out of home position. I can manually move the scanner and feel the vibration, it is only for about 2 inches then smooth again. I've lubed the feet on scanner but no help. Has anyone encountered anything similar?

Do you get any jitter in the scanned image? You may have a problem with the motor.

If it is anything like the mpc 3003 then you have to lube all 4 rails... 2 on each side easily visible and another 2 that are higher up and further back (if that makes sense) and that problem is gone.
A tell tale sign is scanning an a3 sheet of paper on the glass, it vibrates like hell until you grease it

The images are good, no jitters. I have lubed all 4 scanner rails. I think I can eliminate the motor as being the cause as I can feel it while moving scanner manually and it is only for that short duration. You'd think this would be easy to spot but its got me scratching me head.

no if the motor is bad it can cause the same symptoms.

Ok, I haven't looked back in there yet. I should be able to remove motor, manually move scanner and tell if its gone. Yep sounds like a plan will do tomorrow. Its an accountant's office, gotta work fast this time of year.

Very common with this model. Lube the rails.

The noise / vibration will usually only happen on the return movement of the scanner carriage. That is usually a sign, as mentioned already that the nylon pads on the carriage and rails need cleaned and lubed. My only additional comment is two fold:

Use a very light oil, no grease.
Apply said oil very sparingly, just a film.

Thanks everyone. I had addressed the scanner rails earlier. What I found was the "pan" below scanner was bulged up and the holder for the ribbon harness was rubbing on the pan. Popped the bulge down and good to go. Thanks again.

We had a MP4054 doing this same thing and it was also throwing an SC120. We eventually replaced the ipu but first we lubed all 4 rails and pads. All is good now.
