    Ricoh MP2000 windows authentication

I am a IT tech and just getting to know the copier end of the business. I have a MP2000 at our local hospital that the IT person wants to use windows authentication for the SMB scanning but when we enable windows authentication it locks down the entire machine from being used including printing. What are we doing wrong here? We would like all functions other than scanning to be free to use without logging in.

    Thanks

You will have to go into service mode for the copier and change some settings. I think it is sp 5-401 (Access Control) just change all the different modes (copier, printer, fax) in there except the scanner to a 1 and that should give you access to the other modes but still keep the scanner locked out.

Browse to the machine using the IP-adres. Log in with administrator rights (default : username is admin, leave password empty).
Go to Adressbook and create a new user, for example 'scanfolder'.

In the section Authentication, fill in the username and password of the PC you want to scan to.

Scroll down and fill in the path (\\computer\shared folder).

      Click OK

Make sure the machine has write permissions for the (shared) folder.

When you go to the machine and choose the Scan-function, the new user should be visible when you select scan-to folder.

You can use Windows Authentication to let users log on to the machine to use its functions. For SMB scanning Windows Authentication is not needed.

You do not need to go into the service-mode (which should be inaccessible to end-users) to enable the scan-to-folder option. This function can be enabled by the end-user.

Relax! This firmware injection won't hurt...but it will take 45 minutes.

If memory serves, when enabling user authentication.

User Code---Individual functions can be disabled or enabled to require authentication.

Basic, LDAP, Windows and Intergration Server Authentication--All functions are locked down and can't be enabled or disabled individually.

Three of the most valuable whitepapers anyone could read!! When I found these, a few years ago, I printed them out and I still carry them in my bag to this day. I also have them on my laptop, jump drive and the NAS in the office.

dbrown, I think we are going to need to know exactly what you want to do. You can use Windows Auth to log into the machine, but you also use it to access shared folders across the network.

When using WA to log into a machine, basically, instead of the end user entering a numerical pass code in the LCD display to unlock the machine, they enter their Windows user name and password. In some cases this may work fine, but in other cases (and this is most of the time) your end users are going to be screaming!!

And when setting up Scan to Folder, you use WA by default to access your shared folders. Reading the Scan to Folder whitepaper above is the best bet here to get your on the ground running with this service. Basically, if you want to set "Bobby" up with a quick touch to a shared folder he can scan to, Alls you do is create the shared folder either on a file server or his PC. Then from the address book, browse out to his PC or the server (where ever you created the shared folder). Once you hit PC/Server destination, not the folder, the screen with pop up and say that it cannot log in. It will then ask for your user name and password. Enter Bobby's username and password, the same username and password that he uses every morning when he boots up his PC in the office. This will allow access to any shared items that his WA allows him access to and no other.
