Gestetner dsc460 SMB scanning to public vista h.premium pc how to get working?

    hello,
I'm at my wits end to be honest right now with a gestetner dsc460 print/scan/copy machine we have and it's scanning settings. There's two people in our office who have Vista Home Premium pcs and I'm not having any success in getting the scanner to successfully send a scan to their pcs. I have no problem scanning to XP OS pcs. I get a cryptic Error message on the dsc460 but no information beyond that when I try to do a scan.
On each of these two pcs, I've made a new "scans" folder in their respective Public folders that is shared across our network. I can access the public/scans folder from my office XP Pro pc through explorer with no problem after I put in the username and password for these two pcs. I've entered the sam username and password on the dsc460 in the Folder Authentication area of the address book management settings (which has worked fine in the past when I've been sending to an XP OS pc that's password protected), and I have the Vista OS Firewall completely Off, so I'm at a loss right now as to what else I need to do to the dsc460 and/or the Vista pcs to make them be able to successfully receive a scanned document.
Can anyone on here help me with this issue?

    thanks in advance,
    david

"Cannot find the specified path" is displayed when Scan to SMB function is used with Windows Vista, how can this be fixed?"

    [Explanation]
These devices transmit data using packet fragmentation. If this occurs during Scan to SMB, scanned data will not be accepted by the Vista SMB target client. Vista does not accept fragmented packets.
    [Resolution]
There is a free patch released from Microsoft but only by request. Please contact Microsoft Support to obtain the patch discussed in KB Article Number: KB935755

You cannot access a shared network resource that is hosted by a Windows Vista-based computer if the SMB request packet exceeds the MTU size

            thank you

            cobiray:
thank you for the helpful solution.
I looked at the Microsoft page, and think I'm probably better off tackling this vista problem by just having the user who has the vista pc have her scans go to a networked win 2000 server and a subfolder on it, which I've done, and it worked fine.
            thanks,
            david

For the record, I've never successfully set up SMB on a Vista machine. I will always give it a try, but if they want the patch installed they have to do it themselves or have IT handle it. I've seen too many fingers pointed back at service techs who were only trying to be friendly and help out customers.

I have to say, I have set up smb on Vista Business and HP on a number of occasions and have always been able to get it to work. I put the target folder in the Public directory and always update the nic and web firmware.

' course, now that I have said that, I have really screwed myself
