We are trying to navigate puting the white spot color down to print color on top on this machine when printing on black paper. Any direction would be helpful. This is possible right?

Re: Ricoh Pro 7100x Printing Color on Black Paper
And exactly are you planning to apply the white spot areas to the black paper? White ink in an offset press or maybe purchase one of the ink jet or gel jet wide format printers that have to option of using white and silver cartridges? If you go the wide format way you might as well print the entire page in one pass. -
Re: Ricoh Pro 7100x Printing Color on Black Paper
I did some further checking and the Pro 7100X is one of the 5 station models. The fifth station has the ability to print with Clear, White, Neon Yellow, Neon Pink and Invisible Red Toner. For your application the fifth PCDU station needs to be populated with a white development unit. Depending on the software used you may be able to do single pass. A desktop publishing software such as Adobe InDesign, FrameMaker (now owned by Adobe) or Microsoft Publisher using a PostScript driver should support white spot printing.Comment

Re: Ricoh Pro 7100x Printing Color on Black Paper
The colour has to be done in layers, white laydown first, CMYK laydown second. The 7200 can do it in one pass. There will also be loads of settings on the media in the library that have to be changed. It's 106 miles to Chicago. We've got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark and we're wearing sunglasses.
Hit it.Comment

Re: Ricoh Pro 7100x Printing Color on Black Paper
yes the setting is where we seem to be stuck. We cant get it to lay down the white and put CYMK on top. I will pay $$$ for the solution and to team view the fiery and school us on how its done. Any takers please let me knowComment

Re: Ricoh Pro 7100x Printing Color on Black Paper
The 7100 lays the white on the ITB first then ymck, so when the ITB transfers the toner to the media the white will always be on top of the cmyk, the 7200 gets round this by being able to swap the k and special colour units round so white goes on last and will be under the cmyk when transferred to the media. The only option is to run two passes, one white and one cmyk over the top.

Re: Ricoh Pro 7100x Printing Color on Black Paper
It all depends on what the final effect you desire is. The problems I can see with laser on top of laser are:Even with a double pass operation, the white laid on in the first pass will slightly bleed up through the toners from the second during fusing slightly tending to lighten the second pass print. If either of these are going to create a problem, the best work around is to find an inkjet or gel jet printer that has a white ink option and use it to do the white pass.
The other potential problem has to do with the size of the white spot. Large continuous print areas can tend to fade the farther you get from the edge of the print area when the machine is getting close to needing a maintenance service.

Re: Ricoh Pro 7100x Printing Color on Black Paper
The quality is just fine for what we are producing. We have seen a similar finished product before.
The issue here is to understand the settings to have CMYK to print on the white. That is not Happening yet and where we are stuck.Comment

Re: Ricoh Pro 7100x Printing Color on Black Paper
We bought this machines at a liquidation house. It has the extra pump and white toner etc as if its set up for it. I just dont see the settings for it. Is is something needing from Fiery ? I am sorry to be so helpless on this. We have hit a wall and we are toast on a good solution. Spinning our wheels

Re: Ricoh Pro 7100x Printing Color on Black Paper
Hello.
On that model, you need to do it manually on two passes.
First you put the black paper through and print only the white color.
Then you put the paper back in the drawer (with the white printed on it) and proceed to do a second pass with the CMYK part of the job.
If I'm not mistaken, the 7200 allows you to swap the K and S units around, so S goes first - but I never tried or confirmed this...' "But the salesman said . . ." The salesman's an asshole!'

Yes, but when you print all 5 colors at once, the white goes on top of all the others when on the paper - so you need to do white first and then a second pass with the remaining colors.' "But the salesman said . . ." The salesman's an asshole!'
