    [Error Code] MP C401 SC220-01, 220-04

Hello. Another tech began this job, but he's out on furlough, so I got the booby prize. This unit began having the above codes, and the IPU board, the laser unit, and the cable between them have all been replaced. The codes returned, and that's when I got the job.

Ricoh recommended to replace the IPU and the laser unit at the same time, so that's what I was sent out to do. It gave me a 220-04 when I was testing it afterward. It can go days at a time working normally, then suddenly stop in the middle of a job with the code. The client then powers it down, removes the jam, and on turning it back on it will again work normally for hours or days.

    Any suggestions appreciated.

Bad interlock switch or a door "popping open" slightly?
Something broken inside preventing the door from "Fully closing"? (Seems like it's closed, but maybe not completely).
I think i had this same code on a C300, and it ended up being that the front or right-hand door was "popping open" a little, and cutting the power to the laser, and causing a jam.

Couple of things come to mind.

When you say you have replaced the laser, do you mean the laser housing? Lasers are not listed as service parts on this particular model and more importantly, neither is the mirror motor which might be your culprit as well. (Although one would think it would toss a mirror motor code as well, but that isn't always the case).

Power supply is another possibility and along with that, perhaps checking power to the machine for spikes, etc.

i ve pulled laser units on these when gutting a machine as well as its sister printer spc430/c440..
I have yet to need one but if i do i have a few spares..
I would check line voltage too, maybe something spiking the machine.
maybe plug it in a different outlet.
I am lucky if i get a mystery machine that zaps my time i will just swap it and leave it in the shop to deal with later.
