Ricoh CW2201 Wide Format - Jam Code 041, Paper Jam in "B"

One of our guys is struggling with a Ricoh CW2201 Wide Format.

    History:

Customer was running damaged paper through the machine where the print head was catching a corner. The damage was one end of the roll was crushed.

    Issue:

Paper jammed and the jam was removed. Now the screen says Jam Code 041, Paper Jam in "B". Code will not go away. Also when the carriage attempts to home, it stops on the left side. It goes to the right first, then goes all the way back to the left and then stops. Then the code appears.

    Troubleshooting:

He has cleaned and lubed the carriage shaft. No parts yet.

We only have 1-2 of these in the field and don't see the often. Any help or suggestions?

He's still there, but found that the encoder strip had popped up and was on the wrong side of the sensor. He is now getting an SC202-02.

It sounds like there is still paper under the printhead area right side. Do a hard boot on the machine and then see if you can slide a piece of cut paper along that area and see if there is any blockage. There is also an edge sensor that could have an issue. Yes, you may have to take the machine apart. Not a big fan of these inky beasts, and there are no quick service calls on them. Even head cleaning to alleviate small cq issues takes nearly a hour. That sc202-02 indicates an issue with printhead 1.

No blockage that he can find.

He was able to get it to home a couple of times, but then back to Jam Code 041. I'm thinking maybe the encoder strip is damaged. Anyone ever replaced the encoder strip? I have done one back in the old days on a few HP InkJets, but never on a Ricoh.

Yes, it's no big deal. Just follow the procedures in the manual. You might clean it before replacing it.

Jam code 41 The machine detected an overload on the horizontal motor during printing, caused by an obstruction in the paper path (torn or wrinkled paper).

You still have something obstructing the motion of the print head. The bad paper roll might have damage to the encoder strip, the encoder sensor or the horizontal timing belt.

Probably the encoder strip has been scratched, check it with a magnifying glass in the position that carriage stops and shows J041. I had the same problem on a CW2200, same situation after paper jam .Try turning the encoder strip, if scratch is not in the middle you may be lucky, otherwise you must replace it
(Be sure instruct to customer for correct procedure to clear paper jam) .

New encoder strip has been installed and we have gotten past the Jam Code 041. However, we are now stuck with a SC202-02 which is a ink level feeler sensor error. We have inspected the feelers and see nothing out of place. Ricoh support has been somewhat helpful, but we are at the point of them telling us to cycle the power 8-10 times.

As always, any insight or advice is appreciated.

                      Success.

We were concentrating so hard on the feelers under the print head that we missed that the sensor on the frame was totally out of place. Re attached the sensor and started working.

Our theory is the machine jammed and the end user gave it holy hell and ripped it out. Damaging the encoder strip and popping that sensor out of place.

                      Thanks for all.the support.
