The card authentication device is not connected

Really stumped on this one guys. So I was looking to setup a Ricoh MP C4504 EX copier with a wave id Card reader. Customer has only a handful of users and just wants to be able to use their work HID cards to also sign in to the copier.

When I set up the simple authentication and plug in the card reader to the USB port at the back of the machine, i get this error message The card authentication device is not connected

I have looked everywhere on this forum and manuals and unable to find solution. I saw a youtube video where someone connected a card reader to the USB port in the panel. I decided to give it a try and it actually worked. The message disappeared and I can use the card reader to login to the machine.

Has anyone in the field installed card reader that is fully functioning on the USB ports on the back of the machine?

I have come across a couple of machines that have papercut installed previously where the card reader is plugged in to the back of the machine.

Would love for some insight here.

    Thanks
If it works, don't touch it.

      Try this as well:
      Set SP5490-001 to 0

Not on a machine with an SOP.

We have numerous machines with Papercut and card readers. On the 04' models we did have to go into Web Image Monitor - Configuration and then "Program/Change USB Device List". For our card readers the Vendor ID was 09D8 and the Product ID was 0410. The machine would still say "Unknown USB Device Connected" until it connected to the Papercut server.
