    Email Notification

I guess I'm lost here. I have a customer that wants email notifications of errors and for the life of me I have not been able to get the machine MP6500 to do it. I even tried it on our own office machines (MPC4500 and MP6500) that currently are perfectly set up to scan to email, so I know it's not an email config issue.

I have followed the steps in the manual (Network Guide) to no end. The thing that puzzles me the most is the very first thing it says is to set Notify Machine Status to ON in Administrator Tools on the control panel...I don't see that anywhere.

Am I just stoopid or am I missing something. Anyone have a step-by-step for dummies guide? Help me please!!

    Thanks

I was looking over the settings in the network guide of the machine and are you setting this up via the web interface?

The guide recommends making your configurations from there, click configurations, click email then click device settings.

I would verify your settings through the web image monitor and make sure that all of the email settings are done there as well.

It looks like there are a few different areas to double check for the email notification portion of the web interface.

It shows that the default settings for email notification is already set to "on" anyway, so I think you'll be ok there.

Yes, doing it through web interface. I have set all the things that the manual says to do.

The only other thing I can easily think of is that there is an SP setting that needs to be on, and it's currently off, which might explain why even the machines in your office aren't working either. Have you double checked the sp settings, just in case?

I wish I could be of more help here. I'm sure that someone will have an answer.

You also need an administrators email address and turn on the usage of it in user tools as the default sender. I have one of these set up for this but it's been about 6 months since I did it.

Hmm...that may be it. I will definitely check that and report back.
                  Thanks for the response.

It has been awhile since I posted last:

I would image that customers email address into the machine, using his email address as the administrators address. That way when the email does not transfer the smtp will redirect the error back to this customer.

                      Thanks!

The customer actually called me this morning and told me he had tried a lot of things and not sure what he did but it works now...he's gonna try to figure out what made it work and let me know. I'm not too proud to learn something from a customer once in a while.
I didn't have the time to play with our office ones yet. So I'm not sure what actually made it work. But sure is nice to have a customer IT tech that takes the time to try rather than just bitch about stuff.
