    Ricoh Pro C5100s help please!

    Hello,

My office purchased a Ricoh Pro C5100s and Fiery server. Issue is that our IT dept is not allowing the Fiery server to be used, only the printer. How can we use just the Ricoh Pro C5100s as a normal network printer without the Fiery server, but still retain most of the features that the Fiery server would provide, hole punch etc? I read about Postscript Cards? Sorry for the noob question!

hire a tech .. sounds like your IT DEPT is completely useless...

hire a trained tech.. there should be no reason for the firey to be used as designed.

I agree, except it's a security issue in their eyes. We are going through the process to have it validated, problem is we would like to use most functionality while we wait for who knows how long for the approval of the server.

Any idea if this is possible?

I was under the impression that this would greatly diminish the quality and not allow for hole punching, folding, etc?

All options are available in driver
printer quality will be good but not as good as a fiery.
That's why you bought the fiery

Ie Coca-Cola red has a pantone number on a fiery machine it should be spot on. Using a regular driver will be close but not spot on.

Dunno Ricoh but Fiery shouldn't be responsible for finishing HW options atleast on office machines I work on.

no with the proper print driver you should have all features except the RIP features that the firey allows.

***NOTE*** if you are using a WIN10 system DO NOT INSTALL PCL5 DRIVERS... Windows has fucked up printing from a PCL5 driver.. try PCL6 unless Postscript is needed .. then use Post Script drivers. ***NOTE***

thanks for being an understanding user here.. most aren't!

SP 5985-001 and 5985-002 need to be set to 1 to enable NIC and USB GW controller features. There may be other SP changes. You will need the fiery installation guide to check. Anything it says to change fir fiery needs to go back. There are 2 network jacks. One is the gigabit port and is only for connecting the fiery. The other one is for non fiery operation.
Only use the PCL6 driver from Ricoh. Do not use any universal driver. Do not use the WSD port.

There are two service modes to change to remove the fiery. 5193 needs to be changed to 0 to disable the external controller (fiery) and 5895-001 needs to be set to 0 to re enable the native printer app.

And you will probably have to remove the gigabit fiery card from the controller. I know on the office machines you do. If you don't the native print will not function even after changing the sp modes.. Found that out the hard way...

So far, we have connected the printer's ethernet port to our switch and set the ip oaddy that networks provided. Can access the printers panel via the ip in the url box of a browser.

Where would i go to change the 5193 and 5895 service modes?

I will also remove the fiery network card.

                            Thanks to everyone!

There also (2) PCL6 drivers on Ricoh's site. The PCL6 driver and the PCL6 driver for universal printing. Which should we be using?
