It's having trouble seeing the ADF white reference plate, is it missing, dirty or scratched?
It's 106 miles to Chicago. We've got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark and we're wearing sunglasses.

    Hit it.

Just because you see the lamp coming on does not mean that it is functioning properly or positioned properly to scan the white reference and that the timing of the lamp turning is correct. If it were happening during platen glass operation also I would be inclined to say the lamp regulator.
      Mechanical items to check:
      1. Foreign matter blocking the projection path from the slit glass to the lens block.
      2. Something causing the scanner head or mirror assembly to tilt when at the slit glass.

Nope ! The white plate is ok. The sc code appears only when I use the ADF, i think that if it was the white plate i couldn't use the exposure glass either.

Not the scanner white reference plate, the ADF white reference plate. I think it's called a scanning guide plate or something similar, some picture I copied off Google, the white guide that the original passes under when it passes over the ADF slit glass.
