Unscrew the RJ-11 connector on the back of the drum unit and pry the connector out of the other slot, then pull the wiring harness out of its space (you can remove the foam that keeps it in place) and then swap it with the one from the drum you are looking to replace.

or simply use a cutter and a pinboard needle to "modify" the existing connector - it's done within a minute (with a little practice)

I know this is a lot to ask, but can someone (if they get time) do a before and after picture of this modification, a lot of people have mentioned it but I've no idea what to do lol

I just normally swap the harnesses.
It's 106 miles to Chicago. We've got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark and we're wearing sunglasses.

        Hit it.

            Check the attachment.

I already had this image on my hdd - it shows the "black to color" mod.

              It's that simple eh?

Well bugger me. I'll try that next time I need to do one.

Yes - the oly problem is that little metal pin inside the plastic but all you need is a little practice

The Metal pin stops you cutting through, but filing it is no problem at all.

You do need to be careful that you cut enough off so it fits into the connector ok, if you don't you can bust up the female connector when pushing it back in.

I gave up on moding the connector. I screwed up 2 if then and they coded out int the field. I think I cut too much off. Now I replace harness.
But I remove the blade, foam and front cover to make a neater job of it. Takes all of 5 minutes.

If you try the "File off the corner method" make sure the PCU slides home smoothly. If you try forcing it you can break the female socket then you are in Deeeep $hit!!!
Its about a 4 hour job to strip the gearbox out of the back to repair it.
