is there a way for receiving faxes (send with a real fax) on the pc, without using a receiving fax machine unit?

Many of my customers that still require fax reception, subscribe to online services that are often provided by their phone service provider for receiving faxes to a specified email address (if that's what you're even referring to )

In the early days of Group 3 FAX there were a lot of FAX software for PC's, some even came as bundle ware. They required a modem board on the PC which most machine came with for dial up internet service. Some of those software, or similar ones, are still available.

You can also sign up for an online fax service like mika mentioned. When I was in Iraq in 2005 a few of the senior NCO's, including myself, had accounts with eFax. Incoming faxes were received as an email attachment. If any of our drivers needed any documents from their home units, we could get them overnight vs ten day for regular mail. eFax Corporate Secure Online Faxing Solution for Business and Enterprise.


One other option is that some Epson and other small MFP have an option to receive to a connected PC.

I find its less trouble with other services as you have to pay monthly etc better to have fax option on copier then set up fax forwarding to email and use lan fax driver so can send directly from pc
