    Sponge Gathering Rollers

    Hello,

I recently had to replace the sponge gathering rollers on the finisher of my machine. I opted to not go with the original parts, as from my experience I know that these foam rollers are rather fragile.

I found these rubber roller on AliExpress instead and thought I would give them a try.

Initially they were giving me trouble, but after removing the rubber rollers from their shafts and placing them on the old shafts from the original foam rollers they worked great.

I hope you find this information useful. Hopefully these will last longer than the foam rollers.

There is a reason for using sponge instead of rubber!
Sponge will slip over the paper, rubber will not.
You will end up with a lot of misery if you do not use the original sponge rollers.

(I'm still missing my 7th green card, anyone has seen it?)

Looks interesting and funny but I'd expect too much grip wich might stress the gears/drive and perhaps it doesn't interact well with certain paper surfaces. Never had trouble with the foam rollers - OK you might have to replace them after a few 100k prints or years but most customers won't even complain if the paper stack is not 100% aligned^^

Have you ever asked yourself why the paper is not fed out of the finisher properly?
Is it the correct finisher for that printer?

            Yes it is (SR970/MP6000).

The foam rollers had completely disintegrated and needed replacement as the main tray won't work without them. The newer ones were causing the binding but I have now (fingers crossed) fixed it.

I have used rubber instead of sponge a couple of times when I was in a pinch. Too much friction in present using an unmodified rubber roller, and it stalls out the exit motor. I cut the rollers down to about a 5mm width, and then secured them to the old hub with double sided tape. It worked till the sponge roller came in.

Even if they don't stall the exit motor as they get dirty they WILL start to leave skid marks on the paper.

In this test time you could have had a unsatisfied customer... is it worth it? For a few dollars more ?

I've found the wear on these depends on the customer. Seems if they are doing 2 page staple jobs constantly they wear faster. Also if they don't use the proof tray, you are changing them more. I've only done this once, but seems to be fine (haven't been called back) Order a pair of D6864183 and use them or remove the hub and use the original hubs. They aren't foam and they aren't solid rubber either. The finishers that kick the paper out and draw it back in for stapling use these. I think I am going to use these more instead of those flimsy soft foam ones.
