Re: Ricoh MP301 toner depleted
I figured the motor was ok since it toned up so quickly in forced toner mode, but you know how that goes.Comment

Re: Ricoh MP301 toner depleted
This is a common fault. Check this. Sometimes it turns insufficiently. So what happens is the toner light will go off and then come on again after a while due to motor not turning enough.Comment

Re: Ricoh MP301 toner depleted
Our standard operating procedure with a 301 is clean up the mess, replace PCDU and transfer roller otherwise you may be back for squeak from the roller. Enter service program with front door open and do 2928 toner end clear then 2801 initialization. Don't forget to reset the 45K PM counter so the next time you can see how many copies you actually got before it starts leaking again. We do that and we are pretty much guarantied it will last for a while.Comment

Re: Ricoh MP301 toner depleted
I will check it when I go back but I can say it was turning enough to pack the old drum unit with toner.Comment

I ALWAYS run toner end clear prior dev initialization, otherwise I run into the issue described
Just to be clear.....you are positive that you installed the MP301 toner hopper and not the 201? very similar looking, but a very different "cup" that will not allow the "claw" to grasp the bottle plugComment

Re: Ricoh MP301 toner depleted
Return this morning with another new toner tray and new drum unit.
Ran toner end clear, replaced parts, ran developer initialization.
Ran copier with front door open and watched toner bottle turning freely.
Copies still look perfect, hoping this takes care of it.
Thanks for the helpful suggestions.Comment

Re: Ricoh MP301 toner depleted
Typical 301.
Most of the time you can change the PCDU after cleaning up the mess. Make sure you cancel the end toner condition or it will add more toner to the new PCDU, which is not what you want to happen. Initialize.
You can clean and lube the transfer roller assembly if you are a cheap skate. I have a ton of these and have used maybe 2 in the last several years.
Make sure the toner in the bottle is shaken and not packed.
Sometimes when the hopper unit is packed, it wrecks the mylar inside that moves the toner from the bottle to the PCDU. You don't have a choice but to replace it.Comment
